Attending African Crossroads 2019 – Sense the City

We were so excited to attend and present our work at the African Crossroads event which was held in  Mombasa, Kenya between the 20th – 23rd Nov 2019. It was a vibrant conference unlike any other, a confluence of brilliant and creative minds from across the continent. African cities, organised by Hivos, ” is a community of future-oriented African thinkers and doers which meets annually to exchange and critically reflect on the most cutting-edge entrepreneurial, scientific, artistic, and technological developments anchored in African intellectual and technological traditions.”

The 2019 Conference centered on the theme of Sense the City  and included numerous panel talks, exhibitions that explored how African cities are transforming and how this is experienced by their inhabitants. Our project lead, Melisa Allela,  had been invited to present ongoing research on storytelling using Embodied Conversational Agents. Together with Brandon Young, we showcased a demo version of an early prototype of Lwanda Magere and the feedback was encouraging!
